The King Has Arrived!
On Palm Sunday, we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The people welcome Him with great fanfare. Yet, this coming week, we will see our Lord’s triumphal entry turn into a mob of violent rejection. Jesus does not reign upon a throne of gold or marble, but instead He reigns from the ugly wood of the Cross. He chooses to sacrifice Himself for us. Our King offers us forgiveness, grace and so many other good things. What will we give Him in return?
Will we offer Him our lives? Will we finally decide to give up a bad habit that has kept us from pursuing sanctity? Will we be a little more generous? Will we let go of hurts that have been plaguing us for years? There are so many ways in which we can begin giving back to the One who opened heaven for us. God will give us the grace to follow Him and to live out His commands. It is possible! That I promise you. He wants us to be Saints and He has provided all we need to become Saint (your name here).
Please, look for the Holy Week schedule and extra Confession times for Holy Week. Take advantage of the opportunity to surrender to our Lord’s Mercy in Confession and to also offer Him fitting worship. For it is in worship that we find what we were made for: “to know, love, and serve God in this life, as to be forever happy with Him in the next,” as the Baltimore Catechism put it when formulated. It is still as true now as it was then! We owe God everything, and it is in giving of ourselves to Him that we find our true happiness!
Please note that we will have our annual Divine Mercy Holy Hour on Sunday, April 24 at 3:00 p.m. in the church. Come give thanks to the Lord for His mercy and make sure you go to Confession beforehand to truly understand what is so wonderful, beautiful and consoling about the Lord’s Divine Mercy. “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever” (1 Chron 16:34).
Thank you to everyone who has shown support to me since the beginning of my pastorate, and I have been ever-more grateful that the Lord has sent me to Holy Angels. You all are truly wonderful, and I can see your desire to love Our Lord more and more, especially in the Eucharist. I am grateful, also, to those who disagree with me. I have had many difficult but grace-filled conversations. It has shown me that people really care and truly desire to understand, so thank you!
Peace in Christ,
Fr. Jarred Kohn
