Be Healed

Last week, I had the privilege of going to a day of recollection/healing for priests. It was put on by the St. John Paul II Center for Healing. Dr. Bob Schutts and Sister Miriam James Heiland spoke to the priests about the importance for us to continually focus on healing in our own lives so as to experience the love of God the Father ever more deeply and profoundly. There are many points which struck me to the bone, but those would be a bit too much to share in a bulletin article.

One thing I would like to share is that Sister Miriam pointed out that the wounds of a priest can serve as a way for him to find healing, and thus, find the Lord in his woundedness. This allows the priest, as spiritual father, to guide his spiritual children in his parishes to do the same. Conversely, a priest’s wounds can also serve to make him cold, aloof, and bitter in dealing with his people in a similar way to a parent’s wounds resulting in treating their children in an impatient manner. On this point, I would like to apologize for any way that I have treated you personally or as part of a group with coldness or in a short manner. I am broken like all of us, and Beacons has brought out some of my woundedness. I am sorry if my broken personhood has negatively affected you. Please pray for me. I am thankful for the many people who have treated me with a patience and kindness I do not deserve.

Please come experience the healing balm of the Father’s Mercy during our upcoming Day of Grace at St. Michael on Wednesday, December 21 or at the Morning of Mercy at Ss. Peter & Paul on Saturday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Confession has been such an amazing opportunity for me personally to experience the reality that no matter what I have done, I am still a beloved son of God and He welcomes me home in the Confessional. So, please experience this wonderful gift this Advent if you haven’t already.

This Sunday, December 11 marks the last Mass Plus event following the 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. Michael in St. Michael’s Hall. Please come for some chili and to learn more about the Catholic Faith and about your priests.

I want to encourage you all to come and spend some time in Eucharistic Adoration at Ss. Peter & Paul on Christmas Eve (Saturday, December 24) between 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Everyone is busy, but Jesus will certainly reward the time you give Him. As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, which is celebrating God coming to us, we can come to Him as well in Eucharistic Adoration.

Thank you to everyone who pitched in to help with Mass Plus. It has been a source of great conversation and discussion. Your generosity in every area of parish life is deeply appreciated.

Peace in Christ,

Fr. Jarred Kohn
