A Priest Forever

This weekend the Archdiocese of Cincinnati ordained 7 men to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. What a wonderous gift to the Church of the Archdiocese and the men themselves. Jesus continues to call men to the priesthood just as He called the disciples at the Sea of Galilee, the customs post, and through the intercession of other followers. He still calls men today. We should always be grateful for the gift of the priesthood and the men who respond to the call.

One of those 7 men is Fr. Adam Berning who grew up at Sacred Heart in McCartyville. Please pray for Fr. Berning and you can forward any cards and gifts of the monetary variety to the parish office in Sidney. Fr. Berning will be in and out with us throughout the coming time between now and the start of his pastoral assignment. Give thanks to God for the gift of Fr. Berning’s priesthood, the priesthood of his 6 classmates and the gift of the priesthood in general.

Every priest was called by Christ. A reality we should constantly call to mind, no matter the priest he was called by Christ. Whether you like his personality, disagree with him, enjoy his homilies, or believe lies told about him. He is still a priest and while priests can certainly be sinful and wrong, they nonetheless were called by Christ and reverence for this simple fact must never be neglected. To do so runs the danger of turning the priest into someone to be judged by our own standards. Each priest like each of us has a unique calling and a peculiar mission.

Please note that with the new liturgical ministries schedule the names listed are those who were originally scheduled through Ministry Scheduler Pro. Thus, if you requested and found a sub, please note the ministry schedule in the bulletin will not reflect this because we cannot see who replaced who. Also, note that if you did not receive a message from MSP that someone took your place you will need to reach out to someone personally to ensure that someone is assigned to a particular liturgical ministry appointment.

Please welcome Fr. Alex Biryomumeisho! Fr. Alex was ordained in 2019 and has been serving for the past few years as parochial vicar of the St. Gregory the Great Family of Parishes on the Eastside of Cincinnati. He will be arriving July 1. That same Family of Parishes is where Fr. Aaron will be assigned come July.

Thank you to Jesus Christ for instituting the gift of the priesthood. The gift of the priesthood continues to ensure that the sacraments and especially the Eucharist can continue to be administered and celebrated. Every day I am so thankful the Lord called me to be His priest serving at His altar day after day and offering myself with His Son, Jesus Christ for the salvation of the world.

Peace in Christ,
Fr. Jarred Kohn
