For Real?
Today we celebrate the great feast of Corpus Christi (the Body and Blood of Christ), to celebrate and emphasize Jesus’ Real Presence in the most Holy Eucharist. The Lord’s own words in the Gospel (in particular John 6) testify to the truth of God’s dwelling among us under the appearance of bread and wine. It is a reality many of you have probably heard often and rightly so, if we seek a personal relationship with Christ then there is no better place to start than the tabernacle and the Mass.
As the words of the great Eucharistic hymn “Adoro te Devote” state: “Thy wounds, as Thomas saw, I do not see; Yet Thee confess my Lord and God to be; Make me believe Thee evermore and more; In Thee my hope, in Thee my love to store.” We have the opportunity to testify to our belief in Jesus Christ despite our inability to sense our Lord and God with our senses. In this act of belief, we also ask the Lord to increase our love for him. We should always ask ourselves how we can deepen our love for Jesus who has given all in love for us. In what ways can you increase the love and devotion you have for the Most Holy Eucharist? I would invite you to pray about that this coming week.
As we come to the close of Fr. Aaron and I’s time here, we will be having a going away shin dig on Sunday, June 23 from 2-4 PM at Holy Angels in the school cafeteria. If you would like to wish us well, please come out and enjoy the afternoon. Both Fr. Aaron and I ask that you forgo bestowing gifts upon us. You can give cards and notes, but we do not need anything more than your love and kindness.
People have been confused about Fr. Aaron and I’s assignments. Fr. Aaron will be heading to St. Gregory the Great Family on the Eastside of Cincinnati. I will be heading to Mary, Queen of Apostles Family in Logan and Champaign Counties to the East. Each of us will be vicars.
Thank you to all of the farmers who work so hard to produce the food that feeds so many. The Lord has a special love for agriculture and myself and many do as well. So, thank you for your persevering work in the fields, barns, and farms to put food on the world’s table.
Peace in Christ,
Fr. Jarred Kohn
