Endings & Beginnings
As we approach the Beacons of Light D-Day on July 1, please remember to consult the Mass and Confession schedule on the bulletin boards and in the bulletin. One adjustment we are making to the schedule is that we will move the Friday, 8:00 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart, McCartyville to Friday at 6:30 a.m. Some people brought forward a good point that on Friday we do not have an early Mass for people to attend, especially given the First Friday devotion. Thus, we are making this adjustment to the schedule to better accommodate this desire. Having Mass this early will allow those who work in Sidney to go to Mass and still make it to work by 8:00 a.m.
Also, beginning in June, we will end the practice of having Confessions during Mass. The reason for doing so is to preemp- tively adjust to what life will be like on July 1. While I know that many people are disappointed and frustrated that we are doing this, we have no choice, as our priest cannot bi-locate. It would also be unfair to have such a practice at one parish and not at the other parishes. There is an opportunity in this situation for us to become intentional and make time for Con- fession outside of Mass. We will provide 3.5 hours of Confession outside of Mass, and this is a great opportunity for us to make use of the Sacrament of Penance. These Confession times
until July 1 will be Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m., Thursday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. (Until July 1 when Confessions will be on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:00 p.m.), Saturday from 3:15-4:15 p.m., & Sunday from 8:30-9:00 a.m. Thank you for your understanding of this adjustment to Holy Angels parish life and our inability to be in two places at once.
This weekend we had seven men ordained to the priesthood. Please keep them and their families in your prayers. Several of them will be serving in Families of Parishes in the area, so do not forget to get their priestly blessing if you see them around.
Also, the parish picnic will be held Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18. Please put it on your calendars and come out to sup- port Holy Angels. It will be a great time for us to celebrate as a parish family and look forward to what opportunities may pres- ent themselves as we begin the arduous journey that is Beacons of Light. And be on the lookout for opportunities to volunteer for the picnic as well.
Finally, we welcome Amy Thomas as the new Receptionist at the Holy Angels office. She has already proven to be a quick learner and team player in helping staff and volunteers to better serve Holy Angels and our new Family of Parishes (St. Michael, Ss. Peter and Paul, Sacred Heart, & Holy Angels). Welcome Amy as we look forward to bringing the Gospel to everyone in Shelby County.
I want to also thank again Fr. Steve Shoup, who has been an incredible help and mentor through this entire process of transi- tion into Beacons of Light and preparing to become a Family of Parishes. His example of surrender is heroic, and I thank him for the assistance he has lent to me and our Family of Parishes.
Peace in Christ,
Fr. Jarred Kohn
