“They will fight with the Lamb, but the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called, chosen, and faithful.” ~ Revelation 17:14

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 as an answer to secularism, a way of life which removes God from society as if He does not exist. The feast is intended to proclaim in a striking and effective manner Christ’s Kingship over individuals, families, society, governments, and nations.  Pope Pius XI made it very clear that Jesus Christ as creator and sustainer of the world has a right to rule over all the nations of the earth.

How appropriate that our liturgical year comes to an end with this celebration. Next week we begin the Season of Advent; a season where we anxiously await the second coming of Jesus Christ, King of kings, and the Lord of lords by preparing ourselves to celebrate anew the humble birth of our King in Bethlehem.  May we all acknowledge the Lord Jesus as King over our lives and allow Him to reign as King in our hearts and minds. To Him we can bring joys and hopes, sorrows and troubles. With Jesus as the center, even the darkest times of our lives are illuminated by His love.
